Karneval der Kulturen Berlin

"Carnival is one of the oldest celebrations in the world. It developed in ancient Europe, then travelled to the Caribbean, South-America and Africa in colonial times and finally – centuries later – sent back impulses to a culturally, socially and demographically changed Europe. These changed circumstances heavily influenced many contemporary urban carnivals today, making a strong point of the cultural expressions and aesthetic visions of migrants."

I tried to research old photos of the carnival and only came up with this one...strange, but not strange enough, there has to be more, right? Someone tell me why these folks are covered in powder. I want to know!!! My googling finger is too tired...

Her Immigrant Mother

New piece in the shoppe featuring genuine tintypes. Something quite "forever" about a tintype, no? Even though the tintype is quite older than the buckles surrounding it, I am a lover of all things Art Deco...had to work with this assemblage piece.

Shotgun Wedding by Bayou Salvage

I am a serious long time lover of Bayou Salvage and this photo is off the damn chain. It is hard to compliment work that is already so gorgeous...but this is just GORGEOUS.
If not good enough, hows about some "Country Fried Leggings"?

Or, the "Clotille Cloche"?

Aëla Labbé

...and what wonder is this? i have been inspired and moved by the French photographer Aëla Labbé as a result of reading one of my favorite blogs Blood Milk. and for me these photos, nothing short of a breathing being that is still, represent to me an answer or commentary: so there is nothing wrong with the creative torture of a woman's soul. the absolute lust to design, create, manifest the art in ones head and share it...it's not abnormal? oh, okay...

Adrian Buckmaster

I'm so feeling this work. Look at the Empire State...he has captured it as a mechanical, art deco, zenith...amazing...and it is.
